Headteachers Welcome

Welcome to the website for St Peter's Roman Catholic Primary School. We are situated in the picturesque Rossendale valley and enjoy scenic views which span far and wide. Our school is founded in the Catholic faith and all our actions reflect our belief that every child is a gift created in the image of our God. We openly welcome children from all faiths and backgrounds and every child flourishes in our care and love.

There is a real family atmosphere at St Peter's of which we are very proud. We know all our families well and build on this strong partnership between school, parish and home to ensure our precious children receive the support and stimulating education they deserve, rooted within our rich Catholic ethos. Our most recent family survey once again showed that our parents and carers overwhelmingly recommend us to other parents.

In November 2014 we underwent an Ofsted inspection and were delighted to be judged as â€˜Outstanding’ in all areas. In July 2023 Salford Diocese carried out an inspection focusing on the quality of Catholic education we provide for our children; once again we judged to be 'Outstanding' in all areas. This is testimony to the excellent work which continues at St Peter's on a daily basis and demonstrates how we continually strive for excellence. Please take the time to read our reports as I feel they capture the essence of our school perfectly; courteous, thoughtful and enthusiastic children, an environment full of warmth and laughter with dedicated and creative teaching staff who only want the best for every child.

We always welcome visitors to the school, so please contact our office if you wish to make an appointment to see myself or my Deputy Head, Mrs Maria Mussell.

With warmest good wishes,

Helen Sullivan.

Operation Encompass is a unique Police and Education early intervention safeguarding partnership which ensures that a child's school is informed, prior to the start of the next school day, that there has been an incident of Domestic Abuse to which the child or young person has been exposed, and which might then have an impact on them in school the following day.

Each school is informed of all Domestic Abuse incidents, not just those where an offence can be identified or those which are graded as high risk. The partnership recognises that all incidents of Domestic Abuse can be harmful to children and young people.

This information will be shared throughout the year, including school holidays and the weekends. Information will only be shared with the school by the police where it is identified that a young person was present, witnessed or was involved in a domestic abuse incident.

A nominated member of staff, known as a Key Adult, has been trained to liaise with the police. At St Peter’s RC Primary School our Key Adult is Mrs Sullivan. They will be able to use information that has been shared with them, in confidence, to ensure that the school makes provision for possible difficulties experienced by children or their families. The Key Adults will keep this information confidential, and will only share it on a need to know basis, for instance, to teaching staff for the child or young person. It will not be shared with other school students.

Operation Encompass was first introduced in Plymouth in February 2011, and has proved very effective in providing appropriate and timely support to young people affected by domestic abuse. This initiative has been implemented across the whole of the Lancashire Police area.  If you would like some more information about it, you can view it online at www.operationencompass.org.

We are keen to offer the best support possible for our pupils and a recent review of Operation Encompass showed that it is beneficial and supportive for all those involved.
